The Minger Foundation has created an RA Guide to Teaching Fire Safety, series of posters, and videos that you can use in helping to teach fire safety to the students on your floors.
Action Steps
- Print out the posters and use them on your bulletin boards.
- Talk about fire safety using the To Know and Action Items in the Guide to Teaching Fire Safety which contains more information, talking points and other resources that will help you.
All of the students will eventually be leaving the residence halls and living on their own. The fire safety messages you give them are not only for while they are living in the residence halls but, literally, for the rest of their lives. What they learn here will stay with them forever and may, someday, save their lives.
To know…
- There is a lot more information that your students need to know to be fire safe.
- You are providing them with some of the key pieces of information, but if they want more, there are links on the pages the posters are sending them to.
- They need to know this information not only for when they are living in the residence halls but for when they move out.
- They need to know this information for when they are visiting friends who are living off-campus.

- It is important to make them aware of fire safety because these are lessons for life.
